Boro Futon - Zanshi, or Remaindered ThreadsCotton boro zanshi futon cover Zanshi weaving (zanshi orimono) is a Japanese word which means vestige, or leftover. Broken warp threads, left over bobbins and thrums would be tied together to make a continuous length that could then be woven to make a new fabric. These textiles were usually woven by people who had very little to call their own. Silk and cotton threads that could be spun and sold provided income for the household. A fine example with
