Vistaite Jasper Cabochon 38ctThe rarest of jaspers, Vistaite is an old stock mined out stone from a ridge above Walton Lake, in the Ochoco Mountains, Oregon. The deposit has been extinct for decades. Recent reports of finds have been realised to be misidentified examples of nearby Skaggs or Ochoco Green Jasper rather then Vistaite. Discovered and mined in the 60s by Oregon rock shop owners Hoot Elkins and Shirts Quant, our supplier sourced material from Hoot's daughter Judy
This example has a white-gold band of light running across it which is complimented perfectly by the greens of the stone
pastel pink
We still see it frequently as tumble stones but the larger chunks of the rock seem to be disappearing
Named after it's mined location
but even amongst ambers

and yellow-brown with unique banding
Prized for its hardness and taking a beautiful polish
